We helped writer, cook, and content creator Alison Roman unify her digital presence with a refreshed website that brings her recipes, newsletters, and personal updates into one beautiful, easy-to-manage platform.

By consolidating content into a single Ghost-powered site, we built a flexible system that preserves her creative voice while giving her full control over publishing and audience relationships.

Project Overview

  1. We migrated content from Squarespace and Substack into a single Ghost platform. Now Alison manages recipes, newsletters, and editorial posts from one place.

  2. The site is designed to give Alison complete autonomy over her content and audience. A seamless member migration and integrated publishing flow ensures minimal friction for users and maximum freedom for Alison.

  3. A unit conversion toggle and recipe-friendly printing make Alison’s recipes easier to cook from, anywhere.

Unifying the Editorial Ecosystem

Before this project, Alison Roman’s digital content was split between two platforms: recipes lived on Squarespace, while her newsletter—often featuring recipes as well—was published on Substack. Managing overlapping content across both platforms created unnecessary work for her team and made it harder for new audiences to get the full picture of what Alison offers.

We migrated all of her editorial content to a single Ghost platform, creating a home where recipes, newsletters, and updates can coexist and be managed in one streamlined system. We also collaborated closely with Ghost’s concierge team to ensure a seamless migration of both content and subscribers. Now, readers can use a single search system to browse newsletters and recipes together, and Alison can publish across formats without duplication or friction.

Designed for Creative Control

The new platform prioritizes autonomy, flexibility, and ease of use. We recommended Ghost not only for its intuitive editorial tools, but because it’s open source, giving Alison the option to eventually self-host the entire site, including email delivery and admin controls.

To make the transition seamless, we collaborated directly with the Ghost concierge team to handle both content and subscriber migration behind the scenes. For Alison’s readers, nothing changed: newsletters still arrive in inboxes, and the experience remains smooth and familiar. For her team, the back-end is now more customizable and coherent, ready to evolve with her editorial vision.

The UX of Everyday Cooking

The new site introduces a series of user-focused enhancements that make Alison’s recipes more accessible, practical, and enjoyable to use. Readers can now toggle between metric and imperial units, a small but meaningful upgrade for her global audience. The site also supports recipe favoriting, allowing visitors to save their favorite dishes locally within their browser, creating a more personalized experience without requiring an account or login.

For those who prefer a physical copy in the kitchen, a print-friendly layout removes unnecessary media and formats the recipe cleanly, eliminating the need for Alison’s team to manually generate PDFs. We also implemented structured metadata across all recipe pages, which enables fans to import content into third-party cooking and organization apps.

Alison’s new site is a long-term foundation for editorial publishing, audience growth, and creative independence.
